Our Sustainability Ambitions

At IBIS, we are driven by a deep commitment to sustainability and a desire to make a positive impact on the world. We lead by example, that’s why we strive to integrate sustainability into everything we do, from our own operations to the products and services we offer to our clients. We are ambitious in our sustainability goals and believe that by taking a holistic and inclusive approach to sustainability, we can create real and lasting change for the better.

We are committed to upholding the principles of responsible investment and sustainability in line with UNPRI. Our strategy is also underpinned by the UN Global Compact as well as the Sustainable Development Goals with a particular focus on environmental stewardship, empowerment and transformation and workplace well-being.

    ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

IBIS recognises that the interconnected nature of our work gives us the opportunity to address climate change in an impactful way. In our bid to become a more sustainable organisation, we partner with clients to drive climate and environmental impact, and have also implemented a programme to reduce our own carbon footprint.

    EMPOWERMENT AND TRANSFORMATION

We understand our critical role in facilitating economic growth and societal transformation to create a sustainable future for communities in the countries in which we operate. This extends to recruiting, retaining and developing talent. To support this goal and to promote continuous learning and development, we have a number of initiatives in place including; internal training programs and workshops, external education and certifications, mentorship and networking opportunities, regular performance evaluations and career development plans, and an extensive bursary program. We believe that investing in our employees is an investment in our company’s future.

    WORKPLACE WELL-BEING

IBIS seeks to create a collaborative and transparent culture of respect and dignity. A force for good in society, we aim to instil the same values within our organisation to ensure its continued success.

This starts with cultivating a safe space for care, growth and both physical and mental well-being. Firm believers in the African proverb that ‘to go far, you have to go together’, IBIS realises the importance of family, fun and motivation when it comes to striking a healthy balance.

    Bursary Programme

    KHANYISILE MELANIE MBOYA BURSARY PROGRAMME

As part of IBIS’ dedication to developing young talent, we introduced the Khanyisile Melanie Mboya Bursary (KMM) Programme in 2020. This initiative aims to provide bursary opportunities to exceptional scholars from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, specifically those studying Environmental Science, Social Science, Climate Change, and Sustainability. While we prioritise Masters candidates, we welcome applications from outstanding graduate and undergraduate students. The KMM Bursary Programme seeks driven and high-achieving postgraduate scholars to join our program.

The KMM Bursary for 2023 has already been awarded. Please check back with us for updates on the status of our bursary programme in the future or email bursaryapplications@ibisconsulting.com

    Our Impact

As a responsible business, we know that success lies not only in continuing to reach our financial and commercial targets, but also in the extent to which we create meaningful and positive change for the societies and environments in which we operate. One of the ways that IBIS is able to achieve this Impact is through supporting our clients in maximising the positive effects that they are able to have in their own contexts through their operations and investments.

IBIS has embarked on a journey to articulate our Impact objectives, ensuring that these are central to our business strategy and aligned with our values.

ESG AND IMPACT TALENT IN EMERGING MARKETS

We recognise that the development and growth of ESG and Impact talent in the emerging markets where we operate is essential to achieving our own objectives, as well as those of our clients. For this reason, we are committed to building a diverse cohort of local talent which understands and is able navigate the intricacies and nuances of these regions. Our team has an unparalleled understanding of the cultural, economic, and political context of the emerging markets in which we operate, and is able to use this for the benefit of our clients.

Our employees come from a variety of backgrounds and bring a wide range of experiences, perspectives, and skills to the table. This diversity allows us to approach sustainability challenges from multiple angles and find the best solutions for our clients.

Aside from the ways that this strengthens our work, we recognise that this approach has myriad benefits for our employees, their families, and for emerging market economies more broadly as the demand for the unique skills and experience that IBIS is able to provide continues to grow.

    INCLUSIVE GROWTH IN EMERGING MARKETS

We believe that by building this talent cohort in the markets where we operate, we are well-positioned to provide our clients with the highest level of expertise and service. By leveraging the diverse experiences and expertise of our employees, we are better equipped to understand and address the specific sustainability needs of our clients, improving their ESG and Impact performance.
